Europe’s growing demand for affordable housing calls for new construction, renovation and urban densification. To meet our housing needs, stable access to essential raw materials – like gypsum – is crucial.
As the European Commission prepares its Action Plan on Affordable Housing and a Strategy for Housing Construction, Eurogypsum organised a half-day event:
“The Building Blocks for Europe’s future. Can Europe secure essential raw materials for its housing needs?”
The conference took place in Brussels on 19th November 2025 and brought together EU policymakers, industry representatives and local experts.
Key topics for discussion:
- Housing policy & raw materials: How EU housing needs depend on the supply of essential raw materials.
- Access challenges: Barriers faced by raw material suppliers in sourcing within Europe.
- Sustainable sourcing: How industries are managing biodiversity, water use, and other environmental impacts while supplying materials for housing construction.
The programme included the 2nd edition of the Eurogypsum Biodiversity Photo Awards and the publication of a new industry roadmap "Towards Water Resilience with Gypsum".
